My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court
I’ve been sending out some impertinent tweets about Progressive Insurance lately, but I haven’t explained how they pissed me off. So I will do that here as succinctly as possible. There’s a general understanding that says, “insurance companies— oh they’re awful,” but since Progressive turned their shit hose on my late sister and my parents, I’ve learned some things that really surprised me.
I’ll try to cleave to the facts. On June 19, 2010, my sister was driving in Baltimore when her car was struck by another car and she was killed. The other driver had run a red light and hit my sister as she crossed the intersection on the green light.
NEVER BUYING PROGRESSIVE.

Beck’s new album is 20 songs in sheet music form and it’s up to you to record them.
I’m a musician and I just rolled my eyes so hard they fell out of my head. FYI, you can both cut an album and release a book of sheet music for that album. This is how I learned to play all of Tori Amos’ catalog when I was twelve. This is a thing that is already done. They probably already HAVE done this for prior Beck records, minus the fancy art that, I’m sure, gives them an excuse to drive up the price. If you’re only doing half of that thing, all you’re doing is encouraging people to do something they can — and do — already do, and removing your half of the equation. Ya lazy. Get out.

Yet another dishonest chart from Fox News.
This time, Fox News is attempting to further distort the debate over welfare reform by using a dishonest chart in order to amplify Mitt Romney’s message that President Obama is “dismantling” welfare reform.
Here’s what the chart would look like if Fox News presented it accurately:
See the difference?
i’m turning into SUCH a public policy nerd, and this kind of stuff is totally my jam right now.
let’s talk about this for a second
…
C’mon, America.

Being born a woman is an awful tragedy… Yes, my consuming desire to mingle with road crews, sailors and soldiers, bar room regulars - to be a part of a scene, anonymous, listening, recording - all is spoiled by the fact that I am a girl, a female always in danger of assault and battery. My consuming interest in men and their lives is often misconstrued as a desire to seduce them, or as an invitation to intimacy. Yet, God, I want to talk to everybody I can as deeply as I can. I want to be able to sleep in an open field, to travel west, to walk freely at night…

This weekend, activists in Uganda - a country where homosexuality is punishable by death - held their first Pride.
This is the epitome of courage. I have no other words.

“When I was young there were beatniks. Hippies. Punks. Gangsters. Now you’re a hacktivist. Which I would probably be if I was 20. Shuttin’ down MasterCard. But there’s no look to that lifestyle! Besides just wearing a bad outfit with bad posture. Has WikiLeaks caused a look? No! I’m mad about that. If your kid comes out of the bedroom and says he just shut down the government, it seems to me he should at least have an outfit for that.”
